Tote Angling Device

Summer 2023

This project was an endeavor to help out Quality Control at the injection molding factory.

The customer, a major car manufacturer, was having persistent trouble with components being loaded improperly. Sometimes the components were double-stacked; other times they were missing. Either way, the problem had been around for months and was threatening the contract, which was critical to the continued viability of our factory.

In order to fix the discrepancy, I asked the workers loading the totes what might help fix the solution. They replied that the totes were at a weird angle, therefore increasing the odds of discrepancies.

Having identified the solution from the perspective of the person who will be using the device, I designed and built a solution with components from around the factory. I manufactured a half dozen of these Tote Angling Devices and the problem was solved for good!
